When generation pauses for your input
Understand why a policy generation job pauses mid-draft for follow-up details, and how to answer AI follow-up questions to resume it.
This is a normal, expected pause
A job that hits missing or ambiguous context does not fail. Its status becomes "Paused for a few follow-up details" (PAUSED_FOR_INPUT) so a human can supply what the engine could not infer, then resume from where it stopped.

Steps
1. Notice the paused status
On the generation progress page, a paused job shows "Paused for a few follow-up details" and a Provide follow-up details button on its primary action card.
2. Open the follow-up dialog
Select Provide follow-up details. The dialog explains that these details will let drafting continue from the blocked stage, and lists any required questions.
3. Answer AI follow-up questions if present
When the engine could not confidently infer an answer, it surfaces specific AI follow-up questions in the same dialog, separate from the standard required fields.
4. Save and resume
Select Save details and continue draft. The job resumes from the paused stage rather than restarting the full 12-stage pipeline.
Verification
- The job status changes away from Paused for a few follow-up details once you save your answers.
- The resumed job continues from the stage it paused at, not from the beginning.
- Fields you left blank that were marked required are called out before you can submit.
Troubleshooting
I closed the dialog without answering and now cannot find the job.
The job stays paused indefinitely; nothing is lost. Reopen it from the generation jobs list and select Provide follow-up details again.
Save details and continue draft is disabled.
Scroll to the first missing required field; the dialog jumps to and highlights it. All required questions must be answered before the save action is enabled.
This looks similar to the quarantine recovery flow.
They share the same supplement dialog component, but are different states: PAUSED_FOR_INPUT is a normal mid-draft pause, while quarantine (Needs manual review) means a later stage found a problem after drafting was already underway.
